Why it’s OK to be confident

Confidence, and being confident, is something that is meant to be positive, but I can’t help but feel that it has negative connotations, especially when applied to women.

There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Men seem to be able to get away with both.

But when women are put into the picture – confidence can be seen as being smug or vain.

Maybe that’s because when we think of someone who is confident we mainly focus on their appearance and how they carry themselves.

When actually confidence comes in many different forms.

I am in no way confident in my appearance and won’t be seen in a bikini any time soon.

But when it comes to my skills, career and talking to a larger crowd I’m more than happy to get involved.

I’m confident in my career and job role, or talking to other people about the industry.

Obviously this comes with great practice and learning from my failures – which I’ve had many.

But once you start to learn and develop over the years you just become confident in your skills and you start to trust yourself.

There is nothing wrong with being confident in yourself – especially if you’ve worked your ass off to get to where you are.

I understand that the word ‘confidence’ has a lot of difference means for different people.

So I asked Anushka, who runs Mid Sized Collective on Instagram, to share her story and battle with confidence.

I’ve always been a size 14 and was very confident as a young adult.

But when Instagram came into my life and all the girls on it led perfect lives and looked amazing 24/7 it made me second guess myself.

My success. My body and my life in general.

Confidence has always been so important to me, and so I decided to fight to get mine back.

It was even one of my New Year’s resolutions one year.

However, it wasn’t until this year that I decided that I could use Instagram to gain my confidence back.

Instead of letting it impact me in a negative way.

Unfollowing all the accounts that made me feel bad about my own life and body, and starting MidSize Collective has done WONDERS for my confidence.

Surrounding myself with images of happy, successful women, rocking their bodies no matter what their size really has made all the difference.

And I’m happy to say that I’m back to where I was with my confidence when I was younger.

I think there is nothing sexier than a woman (or a man) who can take a compliment or even agree to one!

That life of security is more than ok, it is welcome and so needed.

There is no reason why you can’t be confident in yourself!

Every person in the world has at least one thing that they are good at.

That’s why we have teachers, doctors, builders, accountants, managers and chefs.

It’s why we follow each other on Instagram. It’s why we read blogs, books and magazines. Listen to music and podcasts.

Confidence is what’s brought me this far in life and in my career and education. It’s what’s opened up doors and opportunities for me.

Being proud of your abilities, who you are and the amazing things you can do is the best thing you can do for yourself.

Be proud of yourself and the confidence will shine through!

Make sure you follow Mid Sized Collective on Instagram and tag #midsizedstyle if you want to be featured.

I’d love to hear what you are confident about when it comes to yourself!
