It doesn’t matter how many followers I have, what my engagement is like or whether I post on stories or not. Instagram has a massive power over my life and what I do day-to-day.
This social sharing world has changed over the past few years. We’ve gone from telling everyone what we’re doing and how we’re feeling every minute of the day on Twitter and Facebook to literally showing them through photography and videos on Instagram.
Personally I think it’s great. I’d rather watch a 10 seconds Instagram story than a 10 minute vlog.
Photographs are more engaging that reading a long ass status on Facebook.
But it’s starting to become scary just how much Instagram is influencing my life.
Now I’m not talking about other influencers on IG and how them promoting a product or offering a discount code is making me want to go out and buy things.
Instead Instagram is dictating what I do in my week. It dictates what food I order in the hope that it’s photogenic. Where I go on my weekends so I can get a good shot for the gram. Even down to what furniture I order for our flat so that it looks good in blog and IG photos.
It is ridiculous how my taste in clothes, decor and food has changed because of the IG.
I choose my bedding based on what will look good on camera. I actually went out and bought some white bedding just so I have that option of using it in photos, because it’s just one of this blogger/instagram staples.
When it comes to food I of course love my brunch and Instagram has made my taste in food change. I’m a sweet over savoury person but since I got into Instagram I found myself choosing the healthier options.
It’s also gotten me up off my ass and out and about.
Paul and I used to spend our weekends in bed watching TV and movies all day
Now we’re always out. Whether it’s going for a drive into the countryside, heading to a local town to visit a food market or just going for a wonder in town.
We’re getting out more and seeing more of Greater Manchester.
It might look weird when I take photos of my food and Paul might get embarrassed when I ask him to take photos of me against a pretty wall. But I’m grateful for the gram!
It’s making me a more adventurous person whilst fuelling my creativity.
With the latest Instagram update and introduction of IGTV I can;’t help but feel excited about what’s to come for the platform.
I know that some people don’t like the idea of IGTV but personally I think it’s going to give more people that chance to be creative and try something new, and I for one can’t wait!
Has Instagram changed your views, interested and tastes? I’d love to know how it plays into your life!
