Being a Cornish gal I’m not really used to these big cities up North. But despite not really understanding the Metro system or knowing my way around yet, Manchester is still my favourite place.
Not just because it’s where my boyfriend is from and hopefully where I will be calling home in the next month, but because of everything it has to offer.
I’m still a newbie when it comes to navigating my way around the city and I still haven’t been to all of the different places within Manchester and the outskirts of it. But from what I have visited so far I have to admit I love this city.
It is so full of life and culture hidden in places you wouldn’t expect. It blends the old in with the new, from architecture to shops and music.
Although I am very prone to getting lost – which isn’t great when you’ve got an interview- I love how you can walk down a side street and find an independent shop or cafe. I love that there are buskers everywhere – and good ones at that.
Unlike other big cities Manchester has a community feel about it. It’s like everybody shares the same values and community spirit. The locals are proud of their city and the culture and atmosphere it gives off.
Being from a small town I’m not used to lots of shops and places to go. Nor a variety of culture, so Manchester is a refreshing change for me.
I also think that Manchester is a great one for those who want the comforts of their favourite places to eat, drink and shop, but also like to try out new things. Plus if you can’t drive yet like myself the Met makes it easy to get about – even if I find it weird getting on a train-like automobile to take me home.
I am so excited that I will get to call this city my home in the next month or two (fingers crossed) and unlike my home city, I think Manchester will keep me on my toes and I will never be bored as there are so many things to do.
Hopefully I’ll have more time to explore the whole city from The Northern Quarter to Altrichinham.
Have you been to Manchester? What is your favourite thing about it?
