Buying Christmas presents usually goes one of two ways. Either you know exactly what to get the person in question or you have absolutely no idea what to get them at all. If you are a student trying to think of things to ask for or looking to buy for a student then I have come up with a few ideas to help you out.
As students we can’t always afford to spend out or stock up on things we love and need. This gift guide is full of present ideas that are useful and will be loved by any student – especially as it is usually something we need – that isn’t money.
Smellies: You cannot go wrong with some sort of bath and/or shower gift set at Christmas. It is that one present that will always come in handy and get used – whether that is straight away or when you have no money left and have run out of bubble bath is a different question – but it will get used.
Boots and Superdrug have an abundance of gift sets in store and online which are perfect. You can either go for the smaller gift sets with body sprays in and a shower gel or go all out and get them scrubs and moisturizers.
If you know the person well then try Lush for a more relaxing gift set. You can either pick up some of their favourite products and pack it all together yourself, or grab one of their ready made gift sets.
Socks and Underwear: I don’t care what anybody says, Christmas is not Christmas without receiving a pair of socks of some kind. Whether they are fluffy socks, slipper socks, funny socks, normal socks or Christmas themed socks. If anyone also says they don’t like receiving socks for Christmas then they are liars. Come the New Year when they are looking for a matching pair or one without a hole in they will thank you for the brand news ones they got in their stocking.
The same goes for underwear. It isn’t something use students think to buy more of when shopping unless its to show off to someone else.
Loungewear: Now this is not the same as socks and underwear. Loungewear is the best type of clothing for a student. who doesn’t love fresh pyjamas, soft dressing gowns and cosy jumpers and joggers. Obviously you need to know the gift receiver’s size but some brand new loungewear for Boxing Day movie marathons is perfect.
Gift Cards: I know this sounds like a bit of a cop out gift but trust me, any student would LOVE to have a topped up gift card arrive in their stocking. If you have no idea where their favourite place to shop is then Amazon, Boots and WHSmith are a good start as they can spend it on things they need for university and home life. Giving them gift cards from their favourite shop is always going to be a winner as it means they can treat themselves.
Subscriptions: These a like gift cards but they are like the gift that keeps on giving. Whether it is a Netflix subscription or a box subscriptions full of beauty products it will give them something to look forward to every month, and will be something they definitely use. There are also some amazing student gift box websites where you can send a one off box or subscribe for a number of months. This usually include home comforts such as food, DVD’s and other forms of entertainment.
Stationary: It doesn’t matter if they are a guy or gal every stuent will eventually be taking exams and doing essays. Putting together a little stationary bundle with pens, pads, sticky notes, maybe even a USB stick will really come in handy for them. If the gift receiver is a girl then have a look in Paperchase for some more intricate stationary sets.
An experience: A theme throughout this post are presents that students can’t afford themselves, or would help save them money. Any student would love to receive a ticket to a gig, theatre production or even a tour of something that means the most to them. This will give them an awesome experience but also some down time from their studies.
What do you think a student would love to receive for Christmas that isn’t just money? What is your favourite gift to give or receive at Christmas?
